Looking for Free traffic for your blog?

Free traffic to my Blog you say? How can I get free traffic to my site?
Here is my list of free traffic tips:
  • Read other people's blogs and post a comment. Of course you must provide useful comments or it may not be accepted. Don't just say "Great post" or "Thanks for the useful info". It need to be genuine and provide additional info to the post you are commenting on.
  • Answer questions on Yahoo Answers. Find the category you can relate to or know a lot about and start answering the questions. Make sure you know what you are talking about.
  • Place small free ads on Craigs list, Back page and Kijiji. Do not violate their rules by over posting or the ads will be pulled. Post only once or twice per week using different email addresses. Also vary the ad as much as possible.
  • Read/Post on Forums related to your business/web site. Get noticed for being an expert.
  • Post relevant information on your Twitter and Facebook profiles.
Do perform these functions regularly and consistently.
Do not blatantly advertise... or you will get banned.
Do be polite and reply promptly.

Starting out learning about Pay-per-click (PPC)

So I have been able to successfully create traffic for my web site: The Ultimate Green List, using Pay-per click advertising and blog exchanges.

Of course I would not be able to afford it if my clicks were anywhere from 50 cents to one dollar per click. After finding the proper keywords, I was able to bring the cost down to 5 cents per click. Now that is not bad.

Of course I did that using Google's Adwords. Using Yahoo's tool is a little more tricky, but I am on my way there to lowering its cost also. It is taking me a little longer due to the way that Yahoo does not allow matches and also does not distinguish between singular and plural of keywords. You have to be more creative with Yahoo to get your number of keywords up. But that is another post.

My top 6 things to remember when you are starting a PPC campaign:
Think about what you are advertising and what you want you customers to see. The ads and the landing pages should match your text ads and keywords. If your text ads do not match to or relate to your landing page Google can and will disapprove the ad.

Do not bid more than you are willing to lose. If you can only afford $300 per month you can only budget $10 per day. Also, do not use Google's recommendation, because you will run out of money fast.

Get your keyword tools ready and find as many keywords as you can think of related to the information on your landing page. Don't stop until you have a minimum of 150 keywords. There is no maximum number.( as long as you keep within the related parameters) Remember to use the "keyword" and [keyword] for every keyword you find. This trick triples your base number of keywords.

Test different ads. Ads are never optimized until you have an optimum CTR (click through rate). What is that magic number? 1% on the low end. Anything higher than 1 % is a job well done.

Follow up on your campaigns daily...if not twice to three times daily. This is to make sure that you are getting impressions and ultimately clicks and sales. This also insures that you are staying within your budget. Or if you are below your budget, you may adjust it up to get more exposure and therefore more clicks.

Last but not least educate yourself. There are many Gurus out there. I don't claim to be an expert. I have educated myself on pay-per-click and used it successfully to get targeted traffic to my sites.

I hope this gets you off on a good start with your advertising campaign.
Good luck and bid carefully.

Blogger to blogger...commenting done correctly

Posting blogs is a lot of work so you want to see some good interaction for your posts. I love it when I see short comments that just say "Thanks for a great post" or "Good job on this article". This is all fine and well, but it does not help the other readers.

Remember what your grandmother used to say: "If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all".
For blogging: "If you are going to comment make it something worth while, or don't leave a comment."

Leave Good Comments
You do not have to leave a comment everywhere you go. Look around and see what peeks your interest. Read the whole post and ask yourself if the subject matter really interests you. If it does, see if you can add information. If you agree or disagree with the writer then add that information. But make it complete. Don't just say that you disagree and leave it at that. Give some supporting info. Other readers will pick up on it and may add info.

Do Not Advertise

Another biggie is to want to advertise your product. DO NOT advertise. Your comment will be removed. Don't mention your product(s) at all. You are merely providing information to help educate or enlighten the reader.

Good Comments Create Backlinks
What you are doing with the comments is creating back links to your blog or website. Often blog owners will find out where their commenters are coming from. This is good. Especially if you comment regularly with good information.

Consistency pays off
Last but not least you need to be consistent in your commenting. Subscribe to your favorite blogs to stay current or use a tool such as Comment Sniper. This way you can be one of the first to comment on the blogs you are following. Commenting on last month's blogs is usually too late as there is limited followup with new readers.

If done correct commenting on other blogs can reap future benefits in way of traffic to your blog. Useful comments will create a loyal following as people get to know you and trust your information.

Happy blogging and commenting.
